Transition Year
Transition Year is an important part of a Blackrock College education and takes place in 4th Year, the academic year after the Junior Certificate and before the Leaving Certificate Programme, which runs through 5th Year and 6th Year.
During Transition Year, students are encouraged to develop their knowledge and skills in a range of areas including community awareness, entrepreneurship, environmental awareness, social interaction, languages, computer skills and so on.
This is done through a range of activities, many of them charitable or community outreach in nature, including participation in the President’s Gaisce Award, the Goal/Aidlink St Patrick’s Day Badge project, Blackrock College Radio, Chinese Language Classes, ECDL, Dragon’s Den, the Green School Committee and many others.
Further details on Transition Year activities can be found below and the Transition Year website can be viewed here

Work Experience
As part of the Transition Year programme, students will have the opportunity to partake in Work Experience. It is an invaluable opportunity given to students to gain experience in a workplace of interest whilst developing a range of transferable skills.
To support students with securing work experience placements for the academic year 2022/2023, we would ask if companies were willing to offer a placement, to register their information through the online Microsoft Forms link below by 2nd December 2022.
The information provided through the form will be used to assign students to a suitable placement, based on their predetermined area of interest.
Feel free to circulate the form link with any parties whom you may feel would be willing to support this initiative.
