Ben Kieran-Glennon, Conor Hughes, Conor Casey and Frazer McGinn (all 2nd Year) participated in the UCD Junior Schools Debating Competition on Thursday 27th September run by the UCD Law Society and the UCD Literary and Historical Society.
On Saturday September 29th Ben Kieran-Glennon, Alex Linklater (both 2nd Year), James Carroll and Michael White (both 3rd Year) participated in the Matheson Junior Debating National Mace Competition held in Belvedere College.
The motions included:
(i) That this House (tth) will pay stay at home parents
(ii) tth will use torture to obtain information from suspected terrorists
(iii) tth will make vaccinations for Children a legal requirement and
(iv) tth will bar the practice and use of Religion for Children under the age of 18
There were 64 teams registered at the Belvedere Mace and although none of our speakers was placed, it was a great learning experience. The next round of the Matheson debate is in Loreto on the Green on October 13th.
I thank Oisin Ryan (class of 2018) and Ms Pierce for their organisation and preparation of the boys.
