UCD Junior Schools Debating Competition
OCTO-FINALS
Thursday, 23rd February 2023
The OCTO-FINALS of the Junior Schools Debating Competition, hosted by the UCD Law Society and the UCD Literary and Historical Society, took place in UCD on Thursday February 23rd.
Motion: This House Would have all 16-year-olds get a part-time job.
The following students competed in the Octo-Finals in UCD:
- Jamie Browne-Lynch & Josh Murphy (both 3rd Year)
- Tom Hayden & Brian Carroll (both 3rd Year)
- Thomas Murray & Daniel Burns (both 2nd Year)
Josh Byrne and Jamie Browne-Lynch have qualified to speak as a team and Thomas Murray qualified as an individual to speak in the Quarter Finals on March 2nd.
Motion: This House supports the ‘voluntourism’ industry.
For the purposes of this debate, ‘voluntourism’ is defined as a form of tourism in which individuals from developed nations participate in voluntary work, typically for a charity, in developing nations.
