U-19 Basketball All-Ireland Schools Cup Semi-Final

BLACKROCK COLLEGE 50 | ST BRENDAN’S COLLEGE 12 |
Having lost a tight East-Leinster Final in the National Basketball Arena just 10 days previously, another huge game in the same venue was a real test of character for this team and they passed with flying colours as they advanced to an All-Ireland Final and in doing so secured promotion to the ‘A’ division of basketball.
To only concede 12 points represents an outstanding defensive effort by the entire squad throughout the game who all got significant court time. Offensively Maitiu Heckman (5th Year) with 12 points was excellent, Paddy Morris (6th Year), shooting three 3’s as part of a scoring total of 11 put in a seasons best performance, closely followed by the outstanding Eric Brandt (5th Year) with 10 points. We acknowledge the efforts of our gallant opponents who never gave up and won the final quarter.
Joint captains Ronin O’Halloran and Murray Baker (both 6th Year) and their squad can be exceptionally proud of a fantastic first term. However, with an All-Ireland Final in the cup in January as well as the All-Ireland Playoffs in the league there are exciting times ahead in the new year.
We thank our coaches Mr O’Neill, Barry O’Sullivan (Class of 2018), Roberto Brusasca (2019) and Seán Lardner (Class of 2019) for their preparation of the team.
