TABLE TENNIS UPDATE
Blackrock Junior A and Blackrock Senior A have sealed the Leinster League Junior/Senior double for the 5th year in a row, while the Blackrock Minor A League win means Blackrock complete the Leinster League treble for only the 4th time ever.
Blackrock Senior A/Senior B have for the 6th Year in a row taken the Kemp Shield for the Leinster Senior Division 1 title, as they sit in the top 2 on the league table, dropping only one singles match between them all season, with only the match between the two teams remaining to decide the title. The successful Senior Squad was made up of Stephen Campbell (4th Year), Rory Murphy, Sam Totterdell (both 5th Year), Captain Andrew Campbell, Stefan Kelly, Conal Molumby, Geoffrey O’Connor and Paul O’Kelly (all 6th Year).
In Leinster Junior Division 1, Blackrock have taken the NC Mahony Cup for Junior League Champions for the fifth year in a row. Junior A was made up Evan McCool (2nd Year), Joey Nelson (3rd Year), Captain Charlie Fitzgerald and Louis Murphy (both 4th Year).
Minor A have also sealed their title, and regained the Sean Egan Cup, taking the Leinster Minor Division 1 crown for the 4th time in 5 years. The team was made up of Tom Brophy, Captain David Campbell, Scott Cullinane and Robert Kelly (all 2nd Year).
Junior B, made up of Robert Kent, Captain Barry O’Keeffe, Harry Owens and Shaun Towlson (all 3rd Year) & Junior 2A, made up of Mike Hayes, Ross Fitzpatrick, Captain Philip Moran, Duran Osan and Joe Thornton (all 2nd Year) have the match between them to decide the Leinster Junior Division 2 title, while Junior 2B, made up of Sean Carney, Peter Coyle, Sean Lardner, Captain Fergal McCloskey and Robert O’Callaghan (all 2nd Year) have taken Leinster Junior Division 3.
Junior 2C (Darach Clonan, Daniel Cullen, Abdullah Durani, David Fennelly, Sam O’Higgins and Captain Finn Ryan) (all 2nd Year) came from behind in their league table to take the win in their last match, just snatching the Runners Up spot in Leinster Division 4. Minor B have also taken their division, Leinster Minor Division 2, after a strong end to the season saw the team just take the title by a point ahead of Belvedere, that team consisting of Michael Ennis, Ryan Fitzgerald, Captain Eoin Flanagan, Sean Fleming and Christian Young.
Senior A, Senior B and Minor A are all through to their various Leinster Cup Semi Finals, with Minor B, Junior A & Junior B at Quarter Final stage, as the A teams chase their own respective Leinster League/Cup doubles, while their League victories qualify the Minor and Junior teams for the 6-man playoffs to earn the Leinster place at the All Ireland Schools Championships, joining the Seniors who have already qualified for All Ireland Finals Day on May 6th.
Another fantastic season and I thank Mr Butler for his extraordinary dedication, organisation and coaching skills.
