SVP Soccer Marathon, Nov 2020

St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal
Soccer Marathon
27th November 2020
150 boys participated in last Friday’s Soccer Marathon (27th November) and despite the cold weather spirits were high. Due to level 5 restrictions, there was a necessary reimagining of the format but our Coordinators Jake O’Gorman, Jamie Ahern O’Connell, Sam O’Donovan, Jack O’Sullivan and David Mooney came up trumps. They devised an inter-house competition in multiple locations to take on the activities of the day – football rounders, penalties and crossbar challenge, basketball bungee, football tennis and the undoubted highlight – bubble football on the 4g pitch.
The Bubble Football Tournament had individual house tournaments with the winning team from each house advancing to the inter-house finals to decide who would take on the teacher team that evening under lights on the 4G. Shanahan was the winning team and it was clear to see why as they easily emerged victorious in the final game of the day beating the teachers, 5-2.
We would like to thank my colleagues who played on the night: Mr. O’Brien, Mr. Grant, Mr. McGlynn, Mr. Maher and Mr. Halpin. We would like to especially thank the student coordinators of the event who did a superb job throughout. Finally, we commend the boys on their incredible fund-raising efforts as €17,131 was raised for St Vincent de Paul.
We thank our TY team of Mr O’Neill, Mr Grant, Mr Savage and Mr Sullivan for making it possible alongside our team of past-pupils who kept the show on the road.
