SVP Soccer Marathon 2018

Soccer Marathon 2018
124 TY students took part in the annual soccer marathon in aid of Saint Vincent De Paul on Friday/Saturday, 30th November/1st December. Although the forecast was miserable building up to the day, we were blessed with the weather as the rain held off, and despite the cold, morale was high as we kicked off at 9am. Jim Murphy, President of the Blackrock College Conference of SVP, addressed the boys prior to kick off and thanked them not just for their efforts in fundraising but the awareness that such a large participation generates.
The games were played in a very competitive and hugely entertaining manner throughout. As darkness fell, the group moved to the Jubilee Hall. Amongst the many highlights of this late, late show was the student-staff match. The staff won both games, 6-5 and 4-2 respectively.
I thank my colleagues who played that night: Mr. O’Brien, Mr. Grant, Mr. Savage, Peter O’Reilly, Jack Gardiner and Matthew O’Carroll. I would like to especially thank the student coordinators of the event Charlie Mullin, Jack Roche, Geoff Larkin and Sean Probert along with their committee of Zach Boyle, Mark Kelly, Scott Barron, James Culhane, Ben Brownlee and Conor O’Kane. Finally I commend the boys on their fund raising efforts as we collected just under €12,500 for St Vincent DePaul, and their energy and cooperation throughout the day-well done!
Finally I thank Mr O’Neill, Mr Grant and Mr Savage who inspire all around them.
