Sixth Year Family Mass 2018

Sixth Year Family Mass
Sunday, 23rd September 2018
Fr. Paddy Moran, chief celebrant at last Sundays 6th Year Family Mass, informed the boys that “Only God can judge me”. “God is love, compassion and mercy”. He urged the boys to bring back something from the Retreat, a new understanding of self – who will you be for others, family, friends, classmates?
During the Mass, David Gallagher, Harry Hughes, Joe Thornton, Ross O’Reilly, Cian Murphy and Stephen Dunne were commissioned as Special Ministers of the Eucharist. Ronan McGoldrick, Liam Fitter Diarmuid Foley and Ciaran Quinn were commissioned at the Boarders’ Mass on Saturday evening. We congratulate the boys and thank them for taking on this very important ministry.
After the Mass, the 6th Years departed to 15 different Retreat Centres across 11 Counties. The Retreats are a highlight of our Sixth Year programme. They provide an opportunity for our boys to “Think, Discuss, Belong, Pray and to Be Yourself”; to build friendships and deepen faith; to consider the future and have fun.
President of the Union, Mr John Rogan (Class of 1984), and his wife Nicky represented the College Union at the Mass. We also welcomed John’s Dad Shea and his 2 sons Jack and Jamie. I thank, Chief Celebrant Fr Moran and the Concelebrating Community, Mr Orrock, Mr Grumley Traynor, Mr Madden, Mr Ryan, Mr Hurl, Ms Crimmins, Ms McGlynn, Mr Herlihy and Mr Brennan for their organisation of, and support for, the 6th Year Mass. I thank John and Nicky, the boys and their families who made it such a memorable and meaningful liturgy.
I particularly wish to thank Mr Madden for his organisation of the Retreats, my colleagues who accompany them and also my colleagues who provide cover while they are away. “Some give by going, others go by giving”. It is a Whole School effort which delivers enormous benefit to our 6th Year boys.
We wish them well.
