Senior Irish Debating – Comórtas an Phiarsaigh

Thursday, 17th November 2022
Congratulations to the Senior Irish Debaters who take part in the first round of Comórtas an Phiarsaigh, the annual secondary school Irish debating competition organised by Gael Linn.
We were delighted to host the first round of the competition on Thursday, 17th November in the CADLC. The Blackrock College Team comprised of Jack Burke (6th Year), Captain Nicholas Cronnelly (5th Year) and Oisín Tiernan (6th Year), proposed the motion that “Britain Should Abolish the Monarchy”. We welcomed a team from Loreto on the Green, who also proposed, along with a team from North Wicklow Educate Together School, who opposed.
Many thanks to Sinéad Ní Mhaidín, from Gael Linn, who chaired the debate and to the two adjudicators, also from Gael Linn, who offered very helpful feedback to our debaters.
We look forward to continuing to the next round of the competition.
We thank Mr Orrock and Ms O’Connor for their preparation of the team and organisation of the opportunity.
