Senior Debating – Leinster Schools’ Competition, Round 2

Leinster Schools’ Debating Competition
February 2022
Motion: ‘This House Believes that Sporting Teams Should Be Owned by Their Fans.’
We congratulate our four Sixth Year students, who took part in Qualifying Round Two of the Leinster Schools’ Debating Competition.
Colm Fagan and Matthew O’Donnell (both 3rd opposition, individual speakers), were ranked in first place and James Carroll and Michael White (both 4th proposition, individual speakers), were ranked in second place in this round of the qualifiers, in which speeches are five minutes in duration.
It is a fine achievement to qualify within this knockout round, which leads to the Quarter Final of the competition – a challenge borne well by our speakers, who have honed and exhibited exceptional debating skills. The final week next week of these qualifier debates will see Ben Kieran-Glennon (Fifth Year) and Patrick Hayden (Transition Year) take part.
We look forward to how the competition will unfold, as we await the announcement of places in the Quarter Final.
We thank Ms Ní Shuairc and Mr Orrock for their organisation and preparation of the boys.
