‘This House Believes That the Rising Use of Social Media as a Primary Form of News Has Done More Harm Than Good’
The gentlemen proposed and opposed the motion on the evening and now proceed to represent the College at Third Round debates in January 2021. We commend them on their dedication and diligence.
Concern Debates Competition
Wednesday, 2nd December 2020
We also wish to congratulate Gavin Bowen-O’Connor, Will Donnelly, Jonathan Hoffman and Ben Kieran-Glennon (all Transition Year), all of whom were successful in the Round One National qualifier debate of the Concern Debates Competition in a debate entitled:
‘Criticism of the W.H.O. over its handling of COVID-19 is irresponsible and unfair’
Of 92 debating team entries, the College team placed 8th nationally and, consequently, proceeded to the Second Round of the competition, on December 2nd. Arguing on both proposition and opposition sides, they unanimously defeated the Institute of Education, debating a motion titled:
‘To tackle income inequality billionaires should not exist’
We very much look forward to their continued success in the Concern Debates Competition.
We thank Ms Ní Shuairc and Mr Orrock for their encouragement and support for the boys.
