Rowing – Limerick Regatta Report

Limerick Regatta
Monday, 22 April 2023
On the 22nd of April, our Rowers attended Limerick Regatta at O’Briens Bridge. Despite the torrential rain for most of the day, Blackrock saw some success with the J14 4x+ A (Daniel Moran, Oliver Hammersly, James Smyth, Bill Buckley, Max Raingill) quad claiming victory over Enniskillen, Athlone and Coláiste Iognáid. This is the quad’s second victory in two regattas this year.
It was an excellent opportunity for the younger Junior 14 and 15 crews to gain experience racing 1500m on a 4-lane course and learn from the more experienced rowers. This win for the quad was a great achievement, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and resilience.
Overall, Limerick Regatta was a success, and all the rowers who participated should be proud of their efforts. Our first two regattas have been a great start for Blackrock College Rowing Club, and we are confident that we will continue to achieve success in future regattas this season. Our next regatta will be in Portadown, Armagh on the 29th of April.
We thank our coaches Alex Brophy, Matthew Kane and Matthew O’Donnell (all class of 2022), and our Rowing Manager Ms Reilly led by the intrepid Pat Gannon for their inspiration of the boys.
