Literacy Day
LITERACY DAY
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2015
‘WRITE AND SPEAK IN FULL SENTENCES’ was the focus of the day on our Annual Literacy Day on Tuesday last.
In a varied programme, there was something for everyone.
In 2nd Year, there was the launch of the ‘Book in the Bag’ 2015/16 programme – Drop Everything and Read.
Visiting Author of Graphic Novels, Gerry Hunt, addressed the 3rd and 4th Year English Classes in the Creative Arts And Digital Learning Centre.
At lunchtime: the student team of:
Ben Jordan, Donal O’Cribín and Jordan McDonald (all 6th Year) (the Adjudicators Scott Donoghue (5th Year) and James Huggard (6th Year) (obviously partisan) successfully proposed the Motion:
‘That this House would Censor Politically Incorrect Material’ defeating the excellent Teaching Staff Team of Mr Byrne, Mr Morris and Mr Toirleac O’Brien.
The Debate deservedly attracted a large audience of staff and students.
The day came to a close with a Table Quiz based on Literature for 5th Year.
A great day; I thank Ms Kelleher, Mr Sheil and the members of the English Department, Ms Marrey in the Learning Centre, the Debating Society and all who entered into the spirit of the day.
