The motions included:
Debates | |

Motion 1: | This House would ban job applicants from disclosing the name of the university that issued any degrees they may hold. |
Motion 2: | This House, as the EU, would withhold development aid from countries with poor women’s rights records, e.g. age of consent, laws around domestic violence or property laws. |
Motion 3: | This House believes that schools should teach children to be skeptical of authority e.g. parents, law enforcement etc. |
Motion 4: | This House believes that social movements should actively use anger to mobilise support for their cause. |
Our four speakers spoke extremely well, improving with each round in a debate primarily for 4th – 6th Year students. We congratulate them on their courage, resilience and ability to step up to this higher level debating competition.

Up next, there is the third and final round of the UCD Junior Debating Competition on Thursday evening, 28th January, followed by a workshop hosted by Cambridge University on February 4th.
