Junior Debating at Castleknock Community College

Junior Debating Update
Saturday, 26th January 2019
Congratulations to our junior debaters who performed admirably last Saturday, January 26th, in Castleknock Community College.

Michael White and James Carroll
From 2nd Year
Alec Linklater, Ben Kieran-Glennon, Daniel Keeley and Frazer McGinn, Conor Hughes and Tom Walsh
All participated in this event for the first time today so could not qualify for the finals.
The motions were:

There were 144 speakers on the day.
Ben Kieran-Glennon was voted 3rd best speaker of the day.
James Carrol was voted 9th best speaker of the day.
Ben Kieran-Glennon and Alec Linklater qualified for the final along with Belvedere College, Castleknock Community College and Colaiste na hInse.
Deputy Ruth Coppinger chaired the debate with Belvedere College emerging as the winners on the day.
The motion for the final debate was:
“That This House Would Introduce Gender Quotas in the Dail”
Blackrock College (Ben Kieran-Glennon and Alec Linklater) and 2 students from Colaiste na hInse were the overall winners to qualify to represent Ireland in Cambridge University at the International Competition for Young Debaters (ICYD). This event will take place in April.
Out of over 300 speakers all six students: Ben, Alec, James, Michael, Frazer and Daniel have qualified to represent Blackrock College in the Leinster Final on March 2nd.
