Green Schools Eco UNESCO Award 2021

On Thursday, the 2nd of September, the Blackrock College Green School’s Committee was presented with a “Special Transport” Award as part of Eco UNESCO’s Young Environmentalist Awards. Members of Eco UNESCO visited the college, delivering the award in recognition of the committee’s work in building a safe, inclusive “Eco community” that highlights active travel.

In the past academic year, the committee has worked extensively with the school administration and local county council to procure new bike rack facilities for students; to investigate hazards in local cycling infrastructure and to develop activities and programmes as part of the college’s twice annual “Environmental Awareness Weeks”.

Having been awarded the Green School flag in Travel at the start of the summer break, the committee now looks forward to beginning their new theme “biodiversity”, working always with their motto in mind: “Awareness, Appreciation & Action”
