In a superb homily, Chief Celebrant Fr Cormac O’Brolchain urged the boys to pass on the message of God’s unconditional love for us all by the way they lead their lives “to bring joy and light wherever you are, to be a loving presence”
In the Gospel procession the banners proclaimed the gifts of courage, reverence, understanding, wisdom, wonder, knowledge and sound judgement – all that we wish for our boys, for each other.
The prayers of the faithful were offered in 11 different languages. It was an uplifting liturgy. For this, I thank most sincerely: Mr Myles Ryan, Mr Tom Ryan, Ms McMahon, Ms O’Kane, Ms O’Connor, Mr Sullivan, Mr Hurl, Mr O’Reilly, Mr Swan,
Ms Mcgee, Mr Herlihy and members of the R.E. and pastoral teams; Fintan O’Connor, Tommy Moore, Kathryn Cummins and the maintenance and household staff.
The presence of union president Greg Moore (class of 1982) and his wife Aisling, the provincial Fr. Marc Whelan, cssp., chairman of the D.E.A., Fr. Conaty, cssp., chief executive officer of the D.E.A., Ms Caroline Clarke, chairman of the board of management, Mr John Murphy, members of the college Spiritan community and many teaching colleagues was welcomed and appreciated.
I thank the 6th year parents’ committee for the decoration of the Jubilee Hall. It provided a fantastic setting for a prayerful and meaningful liturgy.
I also thank the 5th year parents’ committee for hosting the reception in the refectory.
The graduation lunch, held in the Pavilion, Leopardstown, organised by the 6th year parents’ committee where over 590 continued the celebrations, completed a memorable day.
