Gold Medal Debate 2021

6th Year Gold Medal Debate
Monday, 17th May 2021
Congratulations to Freddie Noonan on winning the 6th Year Gold Medal Debate, on Monday 17th May, before an appreciative audience of his peers and Teachers. Freddie will be the valedictorian for the class of 2021 and will speak in the Quadrangle after the Farewell Mass next Tuesday, 25th May.
Freddie, alongside John Cawley, Michael Lucey and Sam Loscher opposed the motion that ‘this House believes that despite the adversity of the Covid 19 pandemic, the Class of 2021 will emerge unscathed’. The proposition was Conor Slattery, Andrew Ryan, Pearse Woods and Daniel Welch. All eight speakers were most impressive and in the words of chief adjudicator Mr Sheil built an excellent rapport with the audience. Suffice to say that the best traditions of the occasion were upheld and embellished by the Class of 2021.
We thank our timekeeper James Turley (6th Year), and the adjudicators Mr Sheil, Ms Kelleher, Ms Pierce and Stephen Ryan (Class of 2018). We particularly thank Ms Ní Shuaric and Mr Orrock, not just for chairing the debate, but for their organisation and promotion of this occasion of ‘Tradition and Prestige’. Senior Debating in the College is in great hands.
We thank Alan Sheridan, Fintan O’ Connor and our Household and Maintenance colleagues who ensured that the Sports Hall was an appropriate and safe venue for the debate.
