FAIS South Dublin Metropolitan League Final

BLACKROCK COLLEGE 2 | COLÁISTE ÉANNA 2 |
Coláiste Éanna won 4-3 on penalties
It was a case of dejavú for the senior soccer team, as we had to endure a penalty shootout loss to Colaiste Éanna in the final of the South Metropolitan Final.
Coláiste Éanna started the stronger. They dominated the first 30 minutes and deservedly took a 1-0 lead. However we grew into the game. A Billy Griffin (6th Year) free kick found Scott Cullinane (6th Year) who headed the ball past the Éanna goalkeeper. Unfortunately Éanna responded within a minute to retake the lead. It was from this minute that we really started to dominate.
The 2nd half started with attack after attack from our midfield. Ronan Cowhey (5th Year), Camilo Fernandez (6th Year) and Billy Griffin were causing Éanna trouble and Camilo Fernandez scored the equalizer but as heard as we tried there was no further score, even after 30 minutes of extra-time.
This defeat is not the end of the season for the soccer team. We kick off our Joe McGrath Cup campaign next week against Castleknock College and also await our draw in the 1/4 final of the Dublin Metropolitan league.
I thank our coaches Mr O’Brien, Ms Mullen and Jack Reilly (Class of 2017) for their preparation and organisation of the squad.
