Environmental Awareness Week, Sept 2021

Environmental Awareness Week
Monday 27th September to Friday 1st October 2021
Congratulations to our Green Schools Committee who adopted a cross- curricular approach for the first of our bi-annual Environmental Awareness Weeks. There was something for everyone, with varied resources designed by the Committee, shared on the Year Group Teams and on the TV screens throughout the College. The theme this year is Biodiversity and this was the focus for Second Years during their nature walks in SPHE classes which began on Monday and continued all week.
On Tuesday we had a paper-free Literacy Day and the Science Club adopted an Environmental theme for their after-school activities.
On Wednesday students were encouraged to walk or cycle and we look forward to welcoming ever increasing numbers of cyclists with the new bike racks soon to be completed.
This year once again we invited our local TDs to contribute to a short film created by the Green Schools Committee. The Committee wished to highlight the Biodiversity theme, and our thanks to our contributors, Cormac Devlin, Jennifer Carroll-MacNeill, Neale Richmond, Josepha Madigan and Ossian Smyth. The Committee, chaired by Robert McNabb, 6th Year, created an excellent short film which was distributed to all senior RE classes as well as Junior CSPE classes.
We thank Ms Harlowe, Ms Wyse and our Committee for an excellent week.
The Green Schools Committee meets each week in the Learning Centre. All welcome.
