Environmental Awareness Week 2020

Environmental Awareness Week
Monday 28th September to Friday 2nd October 2020
Environmental Awareness Week began with Nature Walks for all Second Years during RE classes. All students were also asked to take a travel survey to measure how they come to school.
On Tuesday, we had a paper-free Literacy Day and the Science Club focussed on climate change for their after-school activities.
On Wednesday, students were encouraged to walk or cycle and we highlighted the increase in cycling to school so far this year.
On Thursday and Friday, the classroom-based activities centred around a short film created by the Green Schools Committee. The Committee approached local TDs, Cormac Devlin, Jennifer Carroll-McNeill, Richard Boyd-Barrett, Neale Richmond, Josepha Madigan and Oisin Smyth and asked each of them to provide a short account of what they see as the key Green priorities for Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown. The film, directed by Robert McNabb (5th Year), was distributed to all RE and CSPE classes and was used to spark classroom discussion. This film is available to view on the College Twitter account and is highly recommended.
We thank Ms Harlowe, Ms Wyse and the Green Schools Committee – Zach Egan Ruane, Jamie Hudson, Philip Duffy, Alex Parsons, Edward Wilson, Darragh O’Neill (all 2nd Years), Jack Murphy, Oisin Daly, Robb MacHale, Gavin McNabb (all 3rd Years), Fraser McGowan, Aaron Murtagh (both T.Y.), Robert McNabb, Michael White (both 5th Years), Matthew Gibney, Joey Haughton, Mark O’Brien, Eoin O’Sullivan, Colm Fagan, Matthew O’Donnell, Michael Lucey and Conor Slattery (all 6th Years) – for keeping the Environment at the top of our Agenda.
The Green Schools Committee meets each week in the Learning Centre.
