Debating – MUN Hosted by Royal Russell School

Our Model United Nations team of Aaron Murtagh, Gavin Bowen-O’Connor, Frazer McGinn, Conor Casey, Jamie Starr Bourke, James Lee (all 6th Year) and Aran O’Flaherty (5th Year), travelled to Croydon, London to attend the Royal Russell International MUN conference on the weekend, 15th to 18th October. There were 75 delegations, over 500 delegates, from all corners of the globe, making it the biggest MUN Conference in Britain and one of the largest in Europe.
Blackrock represented the United Arab Emirates. There was an outstanding level of debate throughout committee and General Assembly from our delegation, with topics ranging from ‘The Question of International Cyber Espionage’ to ‘The Question of Pandemic Preparedness’. There was tough competition in every committee, and we emerged successful with a number of the delegates receiving awards from committee.
The awards are as follows:
Special COVID-19 Committee
Distinguished Delegate
Frazer McGinn
Social Humanitarian Committee
Distinguished Delegate
Conor Casey
Crisis Committee
Chairing Award
Aaron Murtagh
We thank Ms Julie Fitzsimons and Mr Mark Smyth for all their organisation, help and facilitation of this trip. We know that the boys were most appreciative.
