The quarter final of the Leinster Schools’ Debating Competition took place over two weeks, concluding on Tuesday, the 2nd of March. We commend our week two speakers; James Carroll (5th Year) (4th opposition, individual speaker), Stephen Corr (6th Year) (3rd opposition, individual speaker), Colm Fagan & Pearse Woods (1st proposition), Ben Kieran-Glennon (3rd opposition, individual speaker) and Michael Lucey & Matthew Keeley (both 6th Year) (1st proposition) who took part. We also commend Alex Kirrane (6th Year) (individual speaker, 3rd proposition, week one). It is a fine achievement to qualify for this knockout round, from over 110 teams in the competition, in which speeches were extended to seven minutes in duration. A notable challenge, borne well by each speaker, who have honed and exhibited exceptional debating skills.
Congratulations to Colm Fagan (5th Year), Ben Kieran-Glennon (TY) and Pearse Woods (6th Year) who have qualified for the semi-final of the competition. We also commend Stephen Corr and Daniel Welch, our novice speakers, who are ranked as one of the top eight highest novice teams. These eight teams now qualify for the novice speaker final, next month.
We thank Ms Ní Shuaric and Mr Orrock for their prepartaion of the boys.
