Junior A v CUS
Congratulations to our Junior A side which defeated CUS (5-0) on Wednesday 27th March. The win has put us in line to qualify for the Leinster final. I thank Ms Groves for her organisation of the opportunity.
Team: Conor Hughes and Liam Norton (both 2nd Year), Sean O’Connor, Matthew Collins and Patrick Curley (all 3rd Year).
Individual Match Reports
With the points gained from today’s match under our belt this should secure our position into the Leinster Finals.
Sean was on board 1. His match was about control of the centre of the board. Sean had a very strong Queen and Rook on the middle column, which eventually led to him getting a favourable trade of pieces. From then on it was a matter of widening the difference until he got a comfortable victory.
Conor was on board 2. He started the game off well, going a piece up early up and gaining a positional advantage. He continued to trade pieces and then eventually won his Queen and the game.
Liam was board 3. He opened with the Sicilian Defence and started off well. He overloaded on his opponents Knight, captured it, and used this to his advantage to win the game.
Matthew was board 4. His opponent made a blunder to Matthews’s advantage, gaining his Knight. He captured both of his Rooks, then forked his Queen and won by back ranking.
Patrick was on board 5 and the game began evenly, with both players trading a few pieces. He started to try and fork his opponents Queen and Knight, remaining on top and eventually winning.
