We decided to play two thirty-minute matches. Blackrock played black in the first round with St. Benildus on white. In round two, St. Benildus boards stayed the same position and we switched as outlined below. Blackrock played white in the second round.
There was 1 point for a win, ½ point for a draw and 0 for a loss.
Great first round played by the boys. Evan and Charlie played right to the wire with their opponents. Evan gave it his all but his opponent was St. Benildus’ strongest player, he was excellent. Even our coach Hector said he has played against this student a few times himself and he found it hard to beat him!
Conor on board 5 had a quick victory. Theo and Philip on board 3 and 4 had very narrow matches but thankfully were victorious.
Another great round, with some boys winning both matches. Ian Duane played an excellent game against his opponent. They were the last board to finish with only minutes left on the clock. Frank Scott (St. Benildus’ coach) commended Ian on such an excellent but tough game.
We look forward to welcoming St. Benildus College to Blackrock on Wednesday 4th May at 10am for another friendly match. Hopefully we can keep up our winning streak!
