We commend Gavin Bowen-O’Connor & James Carroll (First Senior Team) and Ben Kieran-Glennon & Michael White (Second Senior Team), who represented us very well at the All-Ireland championship. This event, facilitated on Sunday the 24th of January, by UCD’s Literary and Historical Society, covered the following motions:
Debates | |
---|---|
Motion 1: | This House would ban job applicants from disclosing the name of the university that issued any degrees they may hold. |
Motion 2: | This House, as the EU, would withhold development aid from countries with poor women’s rights records, e.g. age of consent, laws around domestic violence or property laws. |
Motion 3: | This House believes that schools should teach children to be skeptical of authority e.g. parents, law enforcement etc. |
Motion 4: | This House believes that social movements should actively use anger to mobilise support for their cause. |
We are proud to announce that Ben Kieran-Glennon & Michael White came in first place in this round and will proceed to the Cambridge online debates. Well done to all participants on a day of lively and rigorous debate.
We thank Mr Orrock and Ms Ni Shuairc for the ongoing support of Debating in the College.
