BOI Bond Trader Challenge 2019
Bond Trader Challenge
Monday, 28th January 2019
Bank of Ireland Bond Trader Competition was held in the Maldron Hotel, Tallaght last Monday 28th January. This competition pits teams of students against each other from over 30 schools in the South Dublin region.
The aim of the competition is to see who can maximise profits from a portfolio of Long term bonds, short term bonds, company shares and cash.
Over ten rounds, a series of events happen. Students must decide how to structure their investment portfolio on foot of this new information. Events such as Global manufacturing slowdown, Interest rates increases and a no-deal Brexit prompted students to apply their economic knowledge in a practical way.
Blackrock College brought four teams in an effort to repeat last year’s first place success. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be. Despite featuring in the top 6 on a number of occasions the day was won by CBC Monkstown 6th Years followed closely by Sandford Park.
I thank Mr Fitzsimons for his organisation of this opportunity.
The teams on the day were:
5TH YEAR BUSINESS
5TH YEAR ECONOMICS
TY TEAM 1
Oscar Burke Mullaney
TY TEAM 2
