Basketball Update – All-Ireland Schools Cup Quarter Final

Congratulations to captain Jimmy Gilligan (3rd Year) and his U’16 squad on their qualification for the quarter final of Schools’ Cup. However this achievement doesn’t represent the summit of their ambitions and they will look back on this game and know that they are capable of even more in terms of their performance.

We started strongly in the first quarter winning it 16-6 but the second quarter didn’t go our way. Victory was secured with a very strong third quarter performance. Jimmy Gilligan scored 16 points and Feargal Keane (TY) also excelled on offence. The strength of the squad was clear with each panel member getting significant game time.

In the quarter final, we have a home tie against St. Paul’s Monasterevein which will take place after mid-term.

I thank Ms Grealish for the organisation of the logistics and Calum Henry (Class of 2016), Rob Somers (Class of 2017) and Mr O’Neill for their preparation of the team.

The next match is against St. Benildus College in the league.
