Basketball Ireland Schools Cup – U19A v St. Mel’s College Longford

U-19 A Basketball Ireland Schools Cup
September 2022

BLACKROCK COLLEGE 58 | ST. MEL’S COLLEGE 40 |
Congratulations to Captain Maitiú Heckmann (6th Year) and his squad on this fantastic victory over St. Mel’s College, Longford in the first round of the All-Ireland Cup A Division. This is the first time in over 45 years that we have played at this level.
We trailed 10-7 at the end of the first quarter but though the scoreboard didn’t reflect it we were playing well. Twenty points in the second quarter gave us the half-time lead by one point. We won the third quarter 18-9 and the final quarter 13-5 to secure a hard fought victory. Maitiú Heckmann (24 points), Eric Brandt (6th Year) 17 points and Sam Curley (4th Year) 9 points led the scoring with Luke Brophy (6th Year) and Aaron O Halloran (4th Year) excellent in defence.
We thank our coaches: Rory Linnane (Class of 2017), Barry O’Sullivan (Class of 2018) and Roberto Brusasca
(Class of 2019) and of course, Mr O’Neill for an excellent job.
Well done all!
Next up is Colaiste Eanna in the League
