Basketball – All-Ireland Schools Cup Final v St. Munchin’s College

U-19 Basketball Ireland All-Ireland Schools Cup Final
January 2022

BLACKROCK COLLEGE 41 | ST. MUNCHIN’S COLLEGE 59 |
There is no bigger occasion in Irish Basketball than playing an All-Ireland Final in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght. Joint captains Ronin O’Halloran and Murray Baker (both 6th Year) and their squad were most worthy of the occasion. We are very proud of you.
St. Munchins are an excellent side boasting three Irish Internationals and up to this point had averaged well into the 80’s in points scored per game. It was an outstanding defensive effort by the squad throughout. Offensively, we created equally as many opportunities as St. Munchins, however, to their credit St. Munchins converted their opportunities with great efficiency. Ronin O’Hallorin and Jimmy Gilligan (both 6th year) with 19 and 11 points respectively were excellent on offence.
Reaching an All-Ireland final is a remarkable achievement, not least because it now means we are promoted to the A division of Irish Schools Basketball next year. However, there is much left in the season for Murray Baker and Ronin O’Hallorin and their squad.
Next Wednesday we have the All-Ireland quarter final in the league.
We thank our coaches Barry O’Sullivan (Class of 2018) and Roberto Brusasca (Class of 2019) and Mr O’Neill for their inspiration of this journey.
Great Stuff – upwards and onwards!
