Basketball All-Ireland Leagues – BC v St. Conleth’s, Feb 2022

2nd Year Basketball All-Ireland League
Tuesday, 15th February 2022

BLACKROCK COLLEGE 37 | ST CONLETHS COLLEGE 11 |
The 2nd Year team had mixed fortunes in their previous two matches after losing against St. Michael’s (41-18) and then coming back to beat St. Benildus’ (25-18) at home. On the 15th February, we played host in the final match in the pool stage of the league against St. Conleth’s.
We had a brilliant start as Gearóid Nutley worked hard under the boards to secure rebounds and score an impressive 16 points in the first quarter. Great defensive efforts by the team meant that the first quarter ended with a score of 20-0.
The following three quarters saw Conleth’s fight back, however our teamwork, passing and constant movement around the court meant we maintained their lead. Great defensive work and interceptions by Jack O’Connell and Raif Duncan turned into fast breaks and lay-ups that helped increase the score. Sam LeBolloch and Jack Kelly worked hard under the boards to grab rebounds. While Samuel Adelantado and Jose Pelegrin worked well against defensive pressure to get the ball up the court.
Captain David Hopkins, vice-captain Gearóid Nutley and the rest of the team can be proud of their impressive energy and efforts over the course of the league. Leading the offensive charge were Gearóid (22 points) and Jack Kelly (6 points), while the defensive efforts by the team helped maintain a strong lead throughout.
We thank our coaches Barry O’Sullivan (Class of 2018) and Roberto Brusasca (Class of 2019) and Ms Fitzsimons for their preparation of the team.
