The LEINSTER SCHOOLS’ CHAMPIONSHIPS took place over Wednesday and Saturday last week (14th and 17th May 2014).
Undoubtedly, the team highlight was the victory of the INTERMEDIATE 4 X 100 M RELAY (Patrick Patterson (3rd Year), Tommy O’Brien, Matthew O’Callaghan and Brian Masterson (all 4th Year) as they set a new Leinster record of 44.25 in winning the Gold Medal. The previous record had stood for 21 years.
The individual highlight was BRIAN MASTERSON’S GOLD MEDAL IN THE 400 M, setting a new Leinster record of 49.49 seconds.
On the Wednesday, Tommy O’Brien won the Inter-100 Meter Hurdles and Liam McMahon (2nd Year) won the Junior Javelin.
Both our Junior And Senior Relay Teams (Calum Ryan, Tom Mahon, Colm Cooney, Liam Turner (all 2nd Year); Nick Timoney, Dan O’Mahony, Fred Kenny (all 6th Year), Andrew Dunne (5th Year) finished 2nd.
Roghan McMahon (5th Year) was 2nd in the Senior Discus.
Bronze Medals were won by:
Josh Slevin (2nd Year) in the Junior Discus
Liam Turner (2nd Year) in the Junior 200 m
Tommy O’Brien in the Inter-400 m H
Aengus Meldon (5th Year) in the Senior 400 m and Cian Crotty (5th Year) in the Senior Javelin.
