Athletics – East Leinsters

East Leinster Schools Athletics
Monday, 30th April & Thursday, 3rd May 2018
Over 60 athletes across nearly 40 events competed over 2 days at this year’s East Leinster Schools Athletics in Morton Stadium, Santry.
JUNIOR LEVEL
At Junior level Ethan Laing and Cian Ryan (both 2nd Year) were unfortunate to just miss out on qualification when they both finished in 4th place in the 100m and 200m final.
Our Junior 4x100m A team finished in 3rd place; narrowly missing out on a place to qualify for Leinsters.
Team: Ethan Laing, Mathew Berwick, Sean Purcell and Cian Ryan
The Junior 4x100m B team finished in a strong 2nd place. Ruben Moloney (2nd Year) qualified for the Leinster Finals with a 3rd place in the long jump.
Team: Ben Bracken, Ruben Moloney, Charlie Bastow (all 2nd Year) and Aidan O’Brien (1st Year).
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL
At Intermediate level, Adam Harvey (T.Y) won the 2000m Steeplechase and also finished 3rd in the 800m qualifying for both events.
Liam Blackburn (T.Y) was 3rd in the 3000m – and Tom Henderson (3rd Year) finished 4th in the Intermediate 200m final.
Michael Lowey (3rd Year) was 3rd in the 100m final.
Harry Cullen (T.Y) qualified in both the discus and shot putt, finishing 1st and 2nd respectively.
The Inter 4x100m relay team qualified in second place.
Team: Michael Lowey, Luke Pierce (both T.Y), Harry Whelan and Tom Henderson (both 3rd Year).
James Culhane (3rd Year) took 3rd place in the under 16 200m.
Our 4x300m under 16 relay finished in 3rd place also.
Team: James Gray, Michael Nealon, Alex Dinn and Oscar Burke Mullaney (all 3rd Year)
SENIOR LEVEL
At Senior level, Cathal Ryan (5th Year), was 2nd in the 110m hurdles.
Harry Kearns (6th Year) 2nd in the 5000m.
Ed Brennan (5th Year) 3rd in the triple jump.
There were 4th place finishes for William Spain (5th Year) in the 100m final, Edward McKenna (5th Year) in the 800m and Tadhg Egan (5th Year) in the javelin.
Luke Curtis was 2nd in the 400m hurdles.
Our Senior relay teams qualified in first place in the 4x400m.
Team: Paul O’Callaghan (6th Year), Peter Murphy (5th Year), Ben White (5th Year) and Luke Curtis (TY).
The 4x100m relay finished in 2nd.
Team: William Spain (5th Year), Andrew Hendrickx (5th Year), Harry Donnelly (6th Year) and Peter Murphy (5th Year).
In total we will have 13 athletes representing us at the Leinster Schools Athletics on Wednesday May 16th and Saturday 19th. We thank the boys for their participation and wish the Leinster qualifiers all the best in their respective events.
