6th Year Gold Medal Debate Final 2020

6th Year Gold Medal Debate
Final
Monday, 20th July 2020
The Quadrangle in all its glory hosted the Class of 2020 Gold Medal Debate on Monday, 20th July.
Deservedly, the sun shone on this unique occasion as eight of the class jousted for the honour of being the Valedictorian on their Graduation Day, now set for Sunday August 23rd.
John Huggard, in proposing the motion that “this house believes that the class of 2020 is proof that this generation are no snowflakes”, has earned the honour after a very competitive Debate. All eight speakers – John’s fellow proponents Luke O’Brien, Mark Landers and Tom O’Connor and opposition members Tom Dooley, Jack Tiernan, Aidan Canavan and Oliver Bosworth – delivered their arguments with confidence and composure before an appreciative audience of Community, staff and fellow students, all appropriately socially distanced.
We thank our judges Mr Sheil, Ms Pierce, Ms Kelleher and Stephen Ryan (Class of 2018) who had a very difficult task; Mr Byrne who was his ebullient best in the chair and Mr Maher, as timekeeper, kept everyone on clock.
We thank the boys in attendance for being such a supportive audience; Mr Ryan, Ms Nolan, Mr Herlihy, Mr Madden and Mr O’Shea for their organisation; Ms Crimmins and Ms Ni Choncheanainn for ‘being there’ and of course, our Grounds, Household and Maintenance colleagues led by Fintan O’Connor and Alan Sheridan who, as in all our events, make it happen.
A great morning!
