ARRIVAL & REGISTRATION AT THE CASTLE
We have a registration process on arrival in the Castle. New Boarding students are requested to arrive at the Castle on Sunday 25th August between 2.00-4.00pm. This is a good opportunity to meet other new parents and for the new students to meet each other. Allocation of Beds/Rooms will be given at this time.
CLASS START DATE
Classes will officially begin on Monday, 26th of August.
MEETING THE DIRECTOR OF BOARDING
If you wish to meet with the Director of Boarding prior to school starting, he will be available from Monday, August 19th and appointments can be booked from June through the College reception.
MEETING THE DEAN
You can also meet the Dean of your son’s Year Group during the week of the 24th August. Appointments should be booked through Reception in early June on phone number +35312888681.
ADVICE FOR PARENTS
We would advise parents to return home on Sunday evening or Monday morning. You should have prepared your son well for his new experience and re-assure him that we will look after any needs he has after you leave. It is not a good idea to stay around to “help him settle in “. It simply lengthens the process of helping the boys to adapt to their new surroundings.
GUARDIANS FOR OVERSEAS BOARDING STUDENTS
Blackrock College requires that all boys whose parents live overseas, irrespective of age, have a Guardian appointed for the duration of their enrolment who can act on behalf of the boy’s parents. Guardians are required to liaise with the student’s parents and the College and provide an additional level of support for the student whilst they are in Ireland.
A Guardian may be a family member, a family friend, a Guardianship agency, or other responsible Ireland-based adult authorised by the parent. It is the primary responsibility of the parents to appoint a Guardian and the selection of the appropriate person or organisation rests with the parents.
In order to assist in the process, Blackrock College provides details of agencies and individuals who act as Guardians, but we do not recommend any specific agency or individual. Parents must fully satisfy themselves as to the suitability of their chosen Guardian
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS - PPSN or VISA/EMBASSY LETTER REQUIREMENT
For International students, if there is a requirement for either a letter to get a PPS number or Visa/Embassy letter, please email the Principal’s Secretary with the details – jcallaghan@blackrockcollege.com
ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASSES
English language classes are provided on Saturday mornings by an external agency. The boys are prepared for the Cambridge exams at the appropriate level. This would be at an additional cost to the family. Details can be obtained from the Director of Boarding.
