Prize Day 2022
Prize Day
Saturday, 28th May 2022
President of the Union, Robert Brophy (Class of 1982), accompanied by his wife Sarah, presented over 250 Awards to our prize winners last Saturday. This is an important day, one when we celebrate our top academic students, those who have given service, recognise determination and resilience and honour those who have given of their best.
Prize Day is a very special occasion – Every student can, and should, aspire to be part of it. The boys who received awards last Saturday did so not just because they had the ability but because they have chosen to use it.
Valedictorian Michael White in an entertaining and insightful speech reviewed the class of 2022’s time at Blackrock. His understanding of the Blackrock spirit and the message he gave to the younger boys was excellent.
The Principal acknowledged the contribution of Ms Kelly and Mr MacDermott who both have given 30 years extraordinary service to Blackrock and retire at the end of this academic year.
Finally, we thank Mr Sheil, Mr Madden, the Deans, Heads of Department, Ms Markey, Ms Nolan and Mr Herlihy for the organisation of the Prize-Giving; the President of the Union, Fr. Cormac for presiding; our superb Maintenance and Household teams; the parents and boys, and finally, our Teaching colleagues in attendance who by their presence ensure that his is the academic highlight of the year.
