International Competition for Young Debaters 2020

Congratulations to both Patrick Hayden and Luca Kenny (both 2nd Year) on their performance in the final in the International Competition for Young Debaters (ICYD), hosted by Oxford University, online last Saturday and Sunday, 2nd and 3rd May.

Patrick and Luca had participated in two practice rounds on Saturday April 18th proposing This House would ban private schools and on Sunday 26th April proposing This House would ban all zoos.

In the finals, on the Saturday, they proposed that This House Would require all elected politicians and their immediate families to live on the average income and only use state services and opposed that This House would implement “eco-conscription”.

On the Sunday, they proposed that This House Would require national broadcasting companies to adopt ‘impartiality broadcasting’.

Luca and Patrick debated superbly throughout and enhanced our reputation internationally. The winning team was from Upper Canada College, Toronto, Canada.
