Debating – Comórtas Díospóireachta an Phiarsaigh

Congratulations to our Irish debating teams, both Junior and Senior, who successfully contested the first round of Comórtas Díospóireachta an Phiarsaigh. The competition, which is organised annually by Gael Linn, is the national Irish-medium debating tournament. The Junior team, consisting of Gavin Bowen-O’Connor (Captain), Conor Hughes and Ben Kieran-Glennon spoke in favour of the motion that, “School days are the best days of our lives”. The boys did excellently well and impressed the adjudicators with their rebuttals and level of preparation. Competing on the senior team were John Huggard (Captain), Luke O’Brien and Jack Tiernan. They were successful in favour of the motion that, “Irish people show respect to animals”.

Again, the level of preparation that the boys undertook was hugely evident in the strength and confidence with which they delivered their speeches. Both teams are to be commended for their dedication and work. We look forward with much anticipation to the next round of the competition.

Comhgháirdeachas lenár bhfoirne díospóireachta Gaeilge, idir Shóisearach agus Shinsearach, a d’éirigh go geal leo sa chéad bhabhta de Chomórtas Díospóireachta an Phiarsaigh. Is comórtas náisiúnta, díospóireachta é, trí mheán na Gaeilge. Eagraítear an comórtas go bliantúil ag Gael Linn. Ba iad Gavin Bowen-O’Connor (Captaen), Conor Hughes agus Ben Kieran-Glennon na baill den fhoireann Sóisearach. Labhair said i bhfábhar an rúin, gurb iad na “Laethanta scoile na laethanta is fearr inár saoil”. Chuaigh said i bhfeidhm go mór ar na moltóirí, lena mbréagnú agus lena leibhéal ullmhúcháin. Chuaigh John Huggard (Captaen), Luke O’Brien agus Jack Tiernan san iomaíocht ar an bhfoireann Sinsearach. D’éirigh leo i bhfábhar an rúin go “Léiríonn muintir na hÉireann meas ar ainmhithe”.

Arís, bhí sé fíorshoiléir óna láidreacht agus óna muinín, agus iad i mbun oráidíochta, gur ghlac na buachaillí ardleibhéal ullmhúcháin orthu féin. Tá ardmholadh ag dul don dá fhoireann, dá gcuid oibre agus dá ndíograis. Táimid ag súil go mór leis an gcéad bhabhta eile den chomórtas.
“Déanann cleachtadh máistreacht.”
