CADLC – Digital Escape Room, May 2020
Digital Escape Room
May 2020
10 staff and 13 students participated in the Digital Escape Room competition organised from the CADLC section on Moodle!!
A laughing virus had taken over the world and entrants had to break into Blackrock college, retrieve the vaccine and successfully “escape”. The digital Escape Room was set up on MS OneNote. Each section was password protected so entrants had to solve a clue in one section, (for example unlocking a brief-case, getting to the science lab) before they could move on to the next. Clues varied from coded words to mathematical puzzles and entrants also got to learn how to navigate MS OneNote (which should be of value to students). Each section contained a page with information and a “cryptography” report to help solve the clues.
Thank you to Dr Maguires TY Latin class for coming up with the Latin term for laughing virus – “Ridens Inspirata”. Careful reading, attention to detail and some mathematical skills were all that were needed to escape. The lucky “escapees” were entered into a draw for a €20 National Book Token Voucher.
Congratulations to Mr Niall Byrne (History and English Teacher) and Aaron Murtagh (3rd year) who were the lucky winners.
We thank Ms Dillon for her organisation of this novel event.
