Addiction Awareness Day 2021

Michael R Lucey, Maria Corrigan, Colin O’Gara and Colman Noctor were our guest speakers for our online Addiction Awareness Day on Thursday 5th March.

Dr Lucey spoke to the 2nd Years about the dangers of alcohol consumption in the teen years. Dr Corrigan tackled the subject of Cannabis with the 3rd Years. Professor O’Gara spoke to the Transition and 6th Year boys about Gambling while Dr Noctor addressed the subject of Pornography and hypersexuality with our 5th Years.

It is difficult to measure the impact of these talks in the best of times but particularly so online. The House Captains informed me that the talks went very well, were both very informative and well delivered and the Parents’ Committee organised an online survey which was overwhelmingly favourable.

An important part of wellbeing is the ability to cope with peer pressure, to grow in resilience and to be an influence for good amongst your friends.
