Roinn na Gaeilge

The mission statement of Blackrock College aims to give students an appreciation of their rich Gaelic heritage as well as a thorough grounding in the Irish language, both spoken and written. Irish is a compulsory subject in the College and the department’s teachers follow the syllabus as laid down by the Department of Education and Skills and prepares its students for the State examinations at Junior and Leaving Certificate levels. Both ordinary and higher levels are available in all years and special emphasis is placed on the spoken language in transition year where 40% of the marks are allotted to the oral examination.

Tá sé mar aidhm ag ráiteas mhisin Choláiste na Carraige Duibhe tuiscint agus meas na ndaltaí ar a n-oidhreacht shaibhir ghaelach a chothú chomh maith le buneolas na teanga, scríofa agus labhartha, a thabhairt dóibh. Is ábhar éigeantach í an Ghaeilge sa Choláiste agus leanann foireann teagaisc na roinne an siollabas oifigiúil mar atá leagtha síos ag an Roinn Oideachais agus Scileanna. Ullmhaíonn siad a gcuid daltaí do scrúdú an Teastais Shóisearaigh agus do scrúdú na hArdteistiméireachta. Is féidir Gaeilge a dhéanamh ag an ngnáthleibhéal nó ag an ardleibhéal i ngach bliain agus cuirtear béim láidir ar an teanga labhartha san idirbhliain ina dháiltear 40% de na marcanna don bhéaltriail.

Irish2

Blackrock College has a proud and venerable tradition of Gaelic scholarship and counts among its past pupils Pádraig Ó Conaire, Liam Ó Flathartha, Myles na gCopaleen, Éamonn de Buitléar and, of course, Eamon de Valera. Irish, as a core subject, has moved with the times and today the Irish department is a vibrant, busy place using the latest technology and methodologies in its teaching. Our Seachtain na Gaeilge week is a fun-filled, memorable celebration of the first official language and takes place every Spring. Oral practice, now essential as 40% of the Leaving Certificate marks are given to the oral section, takes place throughout the senior cycle and we are justifiably proud of our 100% pass rate in recent years. Book prizes are awarded to the best student in each year and in final year the students can enter the gold medal essay competition Aiste Uí Chonaire.

Tá traidisiún bródúil cásach ag Coláiste na Carraige Duibhe sa scoláireacht ghaelach agus i measc a n-iarrscoláirí tá Pádraig Ó Conaire, Liam Ó Flatharta, Myles na gCopaleen, Éamonn de Buitléar agus dár ndóigh Éamon de Valera. Is croí-ábhar í an Ghaeilge sa Choláiste a choinnigh suas leis an saol thar na blianta agus inniu is áit ghnóthach bheomhar í roinn na Gaeilge. Is roinn í ina bhaintear úsáid as an teicneolaíocht is déanaí agus na módhanna múinte is nua aimseartha ina cuid teagaisc. Gach bliain ceiliúraimid ár gcéad teanga oifigiúil i rith Seachtain na Gaeilge le ceol, craic agus cluichí. Ag deireadh na bliana bronntar duaiseanna leabhar don mhacléinn is fearr i ngach bliain agus sa séú bliain is féidir le micléinn páirt a ghlacadh sa chomórtas aiste Aiste Uí Chonaire.
