Z$@ Story – One Act Drama 2023

ONE ACT DRAMA
Z$@ Story
Tuesday 25th – Wednesday 26th April 2023
Over six live performances between April 25th and 26th, Daniel Flannery (5th Year), Patrick Hayden (5th Year), and Harrison Carr (TY) packed out the CADLC and performed Z$@ Story before an audience of up to five hundred students, teachers, and members of family.
With the unfortunate cancellation of this year’s St Andrew’s Drama Competition, the Blackrock College One Act was reimagined as an event that could entertain, educate, and promote the values of the school. After each daytime performance, the cast took a Q&A with the audience on the creation of the show and discussed with their fellow students the importance of taking part in school events (BE THERE), be it the arts or otherwise, and how student contribution and support is what makes Blackrock College a place of opportunity and dynamic community (BE GRATEFUL).
Mr Maher reported that the cast had spent 5 weeks building this play. They took apart the script, reimaged it in a local setting and dialect, and together, steadily built their characters. Watching them develop their ideas, discussing what they felt was working and what wasn’t working, watching them flourish as empowered creatives to reach a shared goal is always the most rewarding aspect of the One Act project. It was both an honour and a joy to be part of their artistic journey.
Of course, this event could not happen without a larger team. We wish to thank all at the Maintenance Department, Ms Andrea Dillon, Dr Maguire, Mr O’Sullivan, Sean Hannon (class of 2019), The Senior Management Team, and all members of staff for their continued support of the One Act.
We particularly thank Mr Maher whose inspiration and genius knows no bounds.
