U-19 A Basketball Ireland Schools Cup v St. Brendans College

U-19 A Basketball Ireland Schools Cup

BLACKROCK COLLEGE 58 | ST BRENDAN’S COLLEGE 45 |
Congratulations to Captain Maitiú Heckmann (6th Year) and his squad who have qualified for the quarter finals of the cup with this victory over St. Brendan’s College, Killarney.
The first quarter was our best start in a game this season as we led 11-5 at the end of the first. We maintained this performance level in the second and third quarters to lead 46-30 going in the final quarter. We were never comfortable as St. Brendan’s College fought to the end.
Our shooting was outstanding in this match and big shots being made at big moments in the match were key to our eventual win. Maitiu Heckmann scored 19 points including 4x 3point shots. Sam Curley (4th Year) made some huge shots scoring 15 points. However, equally as important as our offence was the intensity of our defence and how we gave away nothing cheaply. Eric Brandt, James Burton (both 6th year) and Aaron O’Halloran (4th year) never wavered in their efforts.
The All-Ireland quarter final of the cup now awaits after midterm, with an away match to Templeogue in the league coming up before then.
We congratulate our coaches Rory Linanne (Class of 2017), Barry O’Sullivan (Class of 2018), Roberto Brusasca (Class of 2019) and Mr O’Neill for this fantastic performance.
