SVP Soccer Marathon, December 2022

St Vincent de Paul
Soccer Marathon
Friday 2nd – Saturday 3rd December 2022
150 TYr students played in the annual soccer marathon in aid of Saint Vincent De Paul last Friday/Saturday 2nd/3rd December. For the first time since 2019 we were able to have the Soccer Marathon without restriction which meant going through the night until 6am on Saturday morning!
The Soccer Marathon Coordinators (Leo Fowler, Tommy Horkan, Seán Waters, Charlie Harty, Ruairi Houlihan, Edward Wilson) put in a trojan effort in putting all of the fixtures for the tournaments together. Some top-quality football was on show on the JCT and 4G pitch throughout the day before moving into the Jubilee Hall for the after dark session which included FIFA, table tennis and even a karaoke room!
My thanks also to all of the past pupils for their assistance over the course of the event (Jeff Kenny, Rob Kenny, Ross O’Reilly, Charlie O’Carroll, Alex Brophy, Conor Blackburn, Ruairi Coyne, Ruben Moloney, Liam Molony, Riley Smith and Max Mooney). A special word of thanks to the members of the staff team (Mr O’Shea, Ms Fitzsimons, Ms. Ní Shíocháin, Mr Brusasca, Mr Rafferty, Mr O’Sullivan and Mr Grant) for coming in for the staff v students matches late on Friday night, winning the first match 4-2 before losing the second dramatically on penalties. Finally, congratulations to the boys on their amazing fund-raising efforts as they collected €16,314.38 for St Vincent DePaul, and on their energy, cooperation and good humour throughout the day.
We thank Mr O’Neill, Mr Grant and Ms Reilly for their leadership of this and the many other T.Y. projects.
