BLACKROCK COLLEGE 4 | CASTLEKNOCK CC 3 |
Congratulations to captain Daniel Bennett (6th Year) and our senior soccer team on their resilient win against an excellent Castleknock Community College side. Falling two goals behind early in the 1st half, the team had to work hard to get the game level before half time. After mounting pressure a 41st minute strike from Luke O’Regan (6th Year) got us back in the game. Luke’s goal was followed up two minutes later by Eoin Maher (6th Year) to get us level at half time.
Playing into a gale in the 2nd half, we held onto possession a lot better and reaped the rewards. Louis Kenefick (6th Year) was played through by Daniel Cheung (5th Year) and slotted home to give us a 3-2 lead, this was followed up quickly by Callum Dunne (6th Year) who thought he had given us a 4-2 lead, unfortunately his goal was ruled out for offside. In the 75th minute, Castleknock got their 3rd goal of the game and level the game at 3-3. A 83rd minute penalty from Callum Dunne gave us a 4-3 lead and after late pressure from Castleknock CC, we held on for a gutsy 4-3 win.
We thank our coaches of Peter Quinlan (class of 2019), Riley Smith (class of 2021), Max Mooney (class of 2022) and Mr O’Brien for their preparation of the team.
We look forward to the quarter-final against CBS Naas
