Senior English Debating – Teachers vs Students

Senior English Debating
Teachers vs Students
Thursday, 17th November 2022
The Teacher vs Student Debate took place on Thursday 17th November in the Creative Arts and Digital Learning Centre. The motion was selected to align with Science Week: This House Believes that Science would be a More Useful Core Subject than English for the Leaving Cert.
The teacher team, comprised of Mr Sheil, Mr Maher and Dr Maguire proposed the motion, while the student team, Jonathan Hoffman, Frazer McGinn and Ben Kieran-Glennon (all 6th Year), opposed.
Both sides presented compelling cases, but it was the students who pipped the teachers to the post on this occasion. All speaker spoke excellently, with the adjudicators awarding the prize for Best Speaker to Mr Maher.
Many thanks to Ms Pierce, for chairing the debate, and to Ms Buckley (Science Department) and Pearse Woods (Student Coach) for adjudicating. It was a great event, enjoyed by all!
We thank Mr Orrock for his organisation of the Debate and in particular, the student team.
