Prize Day 2023

Prize Day
Saturday, 27th May 2023
President of the Union, John O’Doherty (Class of 1986), accompanied by his wife Nicola, presented over 250 Awards to our prize winners last Saturday. This is an important day, one when we celebrate our top academic students, those who have given service, recognise determination and resilience and honour those who have given of their best.
It is a very special occasion – Every student can, and should, aspire to be part of it. The boys who received awards last Saturday did so not just because they had the ability but because they have chosen to use it. They were as much self-selected as nominated by another.
Valedictorian Ben Kieran-Glennon delivered an outstanding valedictorian address full of humour and gratitude. The standing ovation was well deserved.
The contribution of my colleagues Mr Herlihy, Ms Payne, Mr O’Nuallain and Mr Sheil all retiring after a lifetime of service to the boys, their colleagues and the College, was recognised and celebrated.
Finally, we thank Mr Sheil, Mr Madden, the Deans, Heads of Department, Ms Markey, Ms Nolan and Mr Herlihy for the organisation of the Prize-Giving; the President of the Union, Fr. Cormac and the Chairman of our Board Mr Kennedy for presiding; our superb Maintenance and Household teams; the parents and boys, and finally, my Teaching colleagues in attendance who by their presence ensure that this is the academic highlight of the year.
