Portadown Regatta, April 2023

Portadown Regatta
Saturday, 29th April 2023
On the 29th of April, Blackrock College attended Portadown Regatta on the River Bann, Co. Armagh. It was a mostly sunny warm day with only a few heavy showers. Blackrock saw great success at the Regatta, claiming medals in the J18 1X (1st place): Harry Pierce (5th Year) and 2nd place James Hodgins (4th Year). The J15 4X+ A crew also won overcoming Bann Rowing Club. To round out the day the J14 4X+ A crew defeated Coleraine Grammar School.
The course was a 2-lane wide, 1km stretch outside the town of Portadown. Portadown Regatta was a resounding success, and all the boys should feel very proud of their efforts. It was great to see Blackrock College Rowing Club have 3 crews victorious. This positive result shows great promise for the upcoming regattas: Lough Rynn on the 6th of May and Trinity Regatta on the 13th of May.
J15 4X+ A: Rossa Clonan (cox), Ian Duane (both 3rd Year), Casey Graham, Sam McCarthy and Daniel Moran (all 2nd Year).
J14 4X+ A: Daniel Moran (cox), Jon-Luc Elias, Andrew Clancy, Charlie Schmitt and Finn O’Brien (all 2nd Year).
Many thanks to the team of coaches Pat Gannon, Alex Brophy and Matthew Kane (both class of 2022) for accompanying and supporting all the boys on their victorious journey in Portadown.
