Maths Week – Numeracy Day 2022

Maths Week – Numeracy Day
Monday 17th – Friday 21st October 2022
Maths Week 2022 encompassed a wide and colourful series of events and activities.
A sequence of slides on the monitors detailed the rich history of maths and its many beautiful equations with contributions ranging from our own Richard Rowan Hamilton to luminaries such as Gauss and Schrodinger.
The Maths Quiz ran all week with an impressively high level of participation. Highly differentiating questions were distributed to each year group thus integrating Maths Week seamlessly with the classroom. There wasn’t an increment in sight.
We would like to thank Andrea Dillon for her expert assistance in help in setting up the quiz so efficiently.
The winners were:
2nd Year: Harry Forde
3rd Year: Lorenzo Elias
4th Year: Conor Nel
5th Year: Luca Kenny
6th Year: Max Mullen
Three other competitions were run. The winners were:
Pinball Competition
Ollie Brennan (2nd Year)
Combination Lock Competition
Jack Murphy (5th Year)
Guess the Height of the Tree Competition
Binghong Wang (2nd Year)
In Tuesday every class in the school was invited to play Drop Everything and Play Countdown for the final 15 minutes of the day.

On Numeracy Day a multiplicity of numbers in the college, including all the classroom signs, were substituted with their equivalent calculations.
The first-ever Maths Table Quiz took place on Numeracy Day and enthusiastically embraced by the staff. The winning team, The Mama’s, proved stiff competition indeed!
In summation we would like to thank all the members of the Maths Department led heroically by Mr McKimm and Mr Costello for their unstinting and generous contributions to Maths Week 2022.
