Gaisce Adventure Journey – Waterford Greenway
Gaisce Adventure Journey
The Waterford Greenway
Thursday 20th & Friday 21st April 2023
Twenty three, Transition Year students travelled to The Waterford Greenway on Thursday 20th April and Friday 21st April 2023 as part of their Gaisce Adventure Journey.
The group completed a 100km cycle across the two days on a glorious car-free pathway stretching all the way from the historic Waterford City to the sea-side town of Dungarvan. The Comeragh mountains provided a dramatic backdrop to a breath-taking journey across eleven bridges, three viaducts, all the way to the scalloped beaches of the Copper Coast. Students were encouraged on the expedition to note the impact of tourism on the locality in terms of facilities, the economy and the environment.
Undoubtedly, Friday was a day of achievement for all involved and there was an audible sense of relief upon crossing the finish line.
This trip provided a memorable, yet challenging experience for all students involved whilst offering an opportunity to develop self-reliance and self-sufficiency.
Students will be awarded their Gaisce Bronze Award in May 2023.
A special thanks to Mr Fitzsimons and Peter McDermott (class of 2021) for accompanying the students and supporting them in their endeavours.
We thank Ms Reilly for organising the trip.
